My Therapeutic Approach

Whether you are coming to a workshop or for personal therapy, my aim is to work collaboratively with you in a way that allows you to feel comfortable enough to deeply explore who you are. Your strengths, your resiliencies, as well as the elements in your life that you feel are holding you back.

When you come for personal therapy, I take my lead from you. We will always have time to talk about what you are feeling, what has been sitting with you, and what your goals are. In some appointments, we may talk extensively. Other times we may talk less and spend more time in the arts. We will follow what feels right in the moment and what will be most effective for you to help you stretch and move in the directions you wish to go.

Creativity, The Arts & Therapy

I use the arts because I believe in them, because I enjoy working with them, and because I find them empowering.

In working together, we could use anything from drama, visual arts, creative writing, poetry, movement, music and more. We may even move from one art form to another to see if there are any new discoveries waiting. By engaging in play and art, we enter into the world of the imagination, where we can uncover possibilities that were not evident in our daily lives. We can find resources that we did not know we had and possible solutions previously hidden from us.

You don’t need a background in the arts, only a willingness and openness to creation. The expressive arts are a low-skill high-sensitivity model of art therapy and artistic exploration, where we focus on process rather than product and make time to respond to our art work in a way that is supportive and sensitive.

“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.”
