Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question that I haven’t addressed on this page, please get in touch.

What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS (also known as parts work) is a style of therapy that looks deeply at the various parts that make up the whole of us. Some of us might be used to thinking about an inner child or inner critic that can effect how we feel and act in the world. Others of us might have noticed that we still hear the voice of a caregiver, a teacher or some other person from our past influencing our actions and choices. Sometimes we’re left with the question of “Why on earth did I say/do that thing in that moment?” IFS sees all of these as parts of us that are trying to help. Sometimes these parts aren’t as helpful as they would like to be. Getting to know and understand our parts offers the opportunity for understanding, compassion and healing.

Could art therapy be helpful for me?

The field of art therapy is relatively young. However, I can offer that a growing body of research papers and studies over the last 15 years have pointed out the effectiveness of art therapy for people from diverse populations dealing with a wide variety symptoms, including anxiety, depression, stress, and pain-management.

No therapist can offer guarantees of effectiveness. Therapy and establishing a therapeutic connection is a very personal thing. Whether it’s with myself, or someone else, I encourage you to explore the arts and discover for yourself what they have to offer you.
